The Ixworth:
The Ixworth was created by Reginald Appleyard, who created the Silver Appleyard duck, as the ultimate table breed that also lays plenty of eggs. He succeeded in creating a breed that is heavier than it looks and comes only in white with fine skin and short feathers for ease of plucking - desirable qualities in a bird that's destined to be roasted! It nearly became extinct but thanks to the dedication of a small number of breeders it has survived, though it is still on the critical list of the Rare Breed Survival Trust.
